EARTHQUAKE IN KASHMIR - ROTARY AQUABOX APPEAL
The most urgent single problem facing the relief agencies is the provision of a supply of safe drinking water.
A SOLUTION TO THIS IS THE AQUABOX
The standard AQUABOX has two functions. It is filled with a selection of clothing and useful hardware and hygiene items. It also contains a filter cartridge and matching supply of 14 water-treatment tablets. Once the welfare items have been removed, each AQUABOX can be used to purify up to 1,100 litres of polluted water, making it safe and pleasant to drink. As an example, 1,100 litres is 5,000 cups - enough say, for a group of four people drinking ten cups a day for about four months.
On behalf of all 53 Rotary Clubs in Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset the Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge is co-ordinating the supply, distribution, and return of filled aquaboxes to provide front-line survival supplies to those who have lost everything in the recent earthquake.
However, each aquabox, its filtration equipment and the specific items required for survival cost at least £60. To assist in this vital humanitarian work we are asking people to send us money in the form of cheques made out to:-
Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge (Aquabox appeal) to be forwarded to Rotary, c/o The White House, Pensford, Bristol BS39 4NE.
All donations will be used to purchase aquaboxes and essential contents.
(Please note that we are not collecting contents at this time.)
As a result of a similar appeal following the devastating tsunami on Boxing Day, 2005, we were able to send out 3,200 Aquaboxes to India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia.
