After an uphill struggle on
Friday night by Ray and Jerry and with some extra assistance on Saturday
from Richard C, Vic Clark and Colin the Marquee was up.
Jerry demonstrated his
‘roustabout’ skills on top of the marquee to lace the roof sections
together making the structure rain proof (pin holes excepted).
Furnishings in place by Saturday
pm and another wet day dawned on Sunday morning, with Ray pushing up the
canvas to dispose of the large puddles at 6:30 am.
So by 9:00 we were all ready
with Ken and Jenny and Barry and Doris together with Ray, Jackie, Jerry
and Val to welcome our first big breakfasters. Front of the queue was
Tony and Linda with their guests and very soon the was a stream of
Rotarians and local village personalities tucking in to a spread of
cereals, fruit juice, tea, coffee etc and of course the full fry up!
The kitchen resembled a mad
house at times but the team of Indians and Squaws got into a routine and
all were served their menu choice.
With Ray and Barry doing the
‘Manual’ thing and Jerry collecting the cash and selling raffle tickets
the time flew past in a blur until our last guests left at 12:45. It was
then left to the exhausted team to then sit down themselves and enjoy
their own breakfast.
To those who ate thank you, to
those who couldn’t make it – you missed out on an experience!
The raffle prizes have all been
claimed except for ticket holder 645, could the holder please contact
me.
Once again a big thank you to
those who assisted and donated raffle prizes in making the day what it
was as we very nearly got washed away with the weather.
