Hi Everyone We had
another great day yesterday. I personally enjoyed it more than last
year's Show.
Thanks to all the Rotarians who helped make the day
a great successes:
Barry Gillet who literally did not stop moving
and working all day long. In the afternoon he was actually running both
the skittles and the welly wanging alone until Doris arrived. (Thanks,
Doris). Barry's enthusiasm did not wane for a moment: the under 8s'
welling wanging had a three way tie and the play off was held (thrown?)
during the Show prize giving session.
Larry Davies (with moral support from Jane),
John Poling (together with moral support from his 'John le Carre' long
coat), Colin Robinson (complete with his 4x4) and Bob Wright (complete
with his green wellies) for their help throughout the day on marquee
erection and traffic control.
Tony Quinn for his help in loading the skittle
alley and Ray Lithgo for his stoicism at our Rotary Stand with Worldwide
Water Works.
The soothsayer, Sean O'Hare from Blarney in
County Cork, stepping in at short notice for his Spanish cousin, Figaro
the Famous from Famagusta. Sean told me that, since he had grown his
moustache, even friends he had known since joining Rotary, like John
Poling, did not recognise him.
And last, but no means least, Jim Farmer who
supervised event preparation on the Friday (whilst Sandra and I had a
nice day on the M4 watching the boats and ducks on the lake that covered
what was once Reading Service Station). Jim also helped wherever needed
throughout the morning and in the afternoon gave another virtuoso
performance on the microphone.
I would also like to thank all fellow Rotarians
who generously donated prizes for the tombola and raffle.
Finally, I'd like to thank Steve Tanner for all
his support and encouragement before the Show. I know Steve really
wanted to attend and I would like to wish him a speedy recovery.
Regards
Vic
