YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES PROVIDED BY ROTARY 

 

Working With Schools

We look for opportunities to work with local schools, both primary and secondary. Recent examples of how we have helped include:

  • Mock interviews to prepare school leavers for job interviews
  • Financial aid to School projects
  • Assistance in running bars for school events
  • Provision of computer applications to aid development of young people

 Youth Speaks

This competition provides the opportunity to develop skills in public speaking.  Teams of three students (Chairperson, Speaker, Proposer of the Vote of Thanks) address an audience on a topic of their own choosing (exceptions are politics, race or religion), each having a clearly defined role and time allocation

These are organized at three age levels – junior, intermediate and senior. 

There are District Finals at all three levels (District Junior Final is new for 2006/7) and Regional and National Finals at intermediate and senior levels. 

 Young Chef

This competition is designed to develop cookery, food presentation, planning and organizational skills, in preparing a three course healthy meal for two to a budget of £12.00.  Competitors are allowed 30 minutes setting up time (no food preparation) and two hour cooking time. 

This is an open competition for students up to and including those who are aged 17 and under on 31st August each year  There are District, Regional and National Finals in this event 

Youth Exchange

This programme is designed to promote international understanding, goodwill and peace through exposure to different cultures.  There is a wide range of opportunities available – school year exchanges (15-18 years of age), short term exchanges (15-18 years of age), new generation exchanges and European international youth camps and tours. Some sponsorship is available for full year exchanges, as well support and liaison with three host families and the provision of education at a school or college.   

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)

RYLA is designed to develop the leadership skills of young people with potential through a series of physical and mental challenges, problem solving exercises, teamwork exercises, communication exercises and collective tasks.   

Courses can take a maximum of 24 students. 

 The students are expected to report back to their sponsoring Club at a Club meeting. 

Rotary Young Citizen

The aim of this project is to find the Young Citizen of the District from nominations form all the Clubs.  This

 Interact Clubs/Rotakids

We are ready and willing to help schools develop around these projects a more formalized structure of an Interact Club (11-18) or Rotakids Club (7-11).
